Rafiq Bhatia Live.
It was a last minute invitation to a gig by dear friend and fellow producer Alexander Overington, but how could I pass up a show in Greenpoint, at Coco66 no less?
I went to the gig, a live performance by the Rafiq Bhatia Collective, with no intention of making a video, but with my Canon T2i in hand mounted with the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens, it would prove to be a fun night to test out the new lens. The low light was no match for the 1.4 aperture, and I was able to get some really nice shots of the band. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my trusty Zoom H4n stereo recorder with me, so I was only able to capture audio via the internal mic on the camera, but no worries… the video speaks for itself.
There’s a YouTube version as well. Also, I should mention that the Rafiq Bhatia Collective is on the verge of meeting its $10,000 goal on KickStarter to record their debut album with Vijay Iyer and Billy Hart… it should be incredible.
